Cosmic Tarot ~ The Moon

Since I began hosting Full Moon Dreamboards many people have asked why we don’t create the boards on the New Moon instead. The connection to the New Moon makes perfect sense, planting the seeds of our dreams and watching them flourish as the moon does. And the full moon makes perfect sense; the moon’s peak is a powerful time for dreaming. So, I had an idea that I believe will help us harness both aspects of the moon’s cycle and powerfully support our dreams.

On the new moon, I will put up a post sharing the name and focus of the next full moon and inviting you to start gathering materials for your dreamboard. That will give you plenty of time to start collecting magazines, to keep your eye out for things you might like to include, to journal and to consider what your dreams might be this month. Then, on the full moon, we launch!

Let’s start this practice on today’s New Moon. As this month progresses we will be moving towards the Full Sturgeon Moon. (Truthfully, that sounds even weirder to me than the Full Worm Moon!) The sturgeon is a fish, one that is traditionally caught in abundance during the August Full Moon.  This is a time to celebrate that abundance in all aspects of your life, to celebrate the gifts of summer. It also occurs to me is that this must herald a time of intuition – generous fish appearing in the water like messages stirring in our dreams. I’m imagining all of us awakening our inner senses and inviting insights into our hopes and dreams.

And so we begin our journey towards the Full Sturgeon Moon on August 5th. I’ll look forward to sharing our dreams!

It’s an excellent idea Jamie !
It allows us about two weeks to think of our wish, to gather images and so on :)
(when i read “sturgeon” I associate it with caviar ;) )

Oh yes Jamie, I really like this idea. I’ve not been participating in the recent past and I really love the whole dream board experience.
So this is great! A new moon acknowledgement, and some artsy-crafty-glue-stick & magazine cut-out time, and for sure I can be on time with my dreamboards! It’s going to be a much more enjoyable experience for me, giving me time to really focus on the moon changes.
Thanks!!

August’s moon is also the Corn Moon and the Lightening Moon and the Dispute Moon…all of which I prefer over Sturgeon Moon! HA! :)

Anyway, here’s a great list of different culture’s Moon names:

Wonderful site, I like showing up at the new moon, then the shadow (the stuff that holds you/me/us back-past-the traumas/dramas)…moves up and out into the light for transformation by the full moon. This New Moon is so charged with energy…fascinating how everyone is working with the energies. Namaste.

I love this idea Jamie, I often feel caught off guard by the full moon, this makes the whole cycle feel slow and yummy. I like it.

And I just love the look and feel of your blog here at your new home.

Great idea, thanks. And I detect a little anti-Sturgeon bias on this post and comments, think I may have an “I love sturgeon” t-shirt printed ;-)

My wedding in August is right after the New Moon and your project makes perfect sense. I also wrote an entry on my blog explaining August’s Full Moon and it’s other names (http://wyldwytchcraft.blogspot.com/2009/07/augusts-full-moon.html). Finally I will be holding my first Dreamboard Gathering (last month I couldn’t due to my work schedule) and we will have about 8 people joining and right afterwards we will be utilizing that energy with Tarot readings and Tea!~

yes this is an excellent idea! I have always wanted the prompt or some kind of message about the next full moon beforehand so I could prepare and think…and I tried doing it myself…but your prompts and thoughts always help me to think much more clearly. SO this is a fabulous idea! Thanks for doing it this way!
