I’m a huge fan of both you and Christine (and Marcy, for that matter)! There were so many times I found myself nodding (the inner twelve-year-old, the external motivation) at both of you! She gave me a lot of great ideas for feeding my own creativity. Writing’s my primary form of expression, and I’m looking about at my desk wondering how I can incorporate shiny motivators (besides Colette the computer, named after the iconic French author).

This was so great for me to listen to. I love the rebellion against age expectations. I too think back to my younger self, and wish I could have known then that it’s never too late. When I started studying jazz and improvisation 15 years ago, I thought I was too old. It’s a good thing I didn’t wait until I was 60 and retired as my younger self had assumed. By the time I hit that number, I will have had decades of experience with improvising! I also loved the discussion about internal and external motivators and also the special objects for creating. Thanks for sharing this, Jamie!

Dear Jamie,

Love your age rebellion manifesto!! And your dancer soul declaration. I know what you mean about the limitations that a number such as age can seem to impose on who we are and what we think we can have or do or accomplish. And how arbitrary that really is!!

This was a beautiful and inspiring interview and it was a joy to listen to the two of you share about your deep love of dance!

That was TERRIFIC! I was SOOOOOOOO disappointed when it ended – could have listened to you and Christine all afternoon. Hmmmmmmmm…guess after checking I must be externally motivated as well though I have never considered myself a performer in any way, but I was SURE proud of those A’s on my report card in school and was quite disappointed when my Mom in particular never seemed impressed. Stuff to think about and that’s always a good thing…thanks. Oh – and LOVED how Christine referred to you in her blog today, Jamie – sparkly and significant!
