Such a treat to hear this interview with Pat B. Allen. I looked at my copy of “Art is a Way of Knowing” and noticed I bought her book in 1996! Pat’s book has been a treasure for me all these years. I love being reminded how our landscape, whatever it is, can be a deep source of nourishment for our creative soul.
Oh Jamie…thank you so much for featuring Pat Allen! What an invigorationg invterview, and the idea of clearing space at home is what I needed to hear (again!). I love Pat’s books – I have them both; and take a weekly class based on her Open Studio process – lead by one of her mentees…right in Oak Park, IL (where I also live!) –
So far, her work has opened the door for me to go deeper with my art-making, via methods I’ve not been introduced to before. And..I had to laugh when I heard her talk about talking to the roses! I”ve been doing that all spring and summer, talking to and mainly “listening” to the flowers, the trees and each part, the leaves, the blossoms, the colors, the breeze…all of it is incredible! …somuch that I started a little Nature Speaks journal…keeping up w/what nature is whispering to me. I have poems from the Lilas, the Ginkgo tree, etc..and OMG, the trees… I can feel their energy (esp,. one in particular) raining down, showing me w/love and healing energy. In early spring before all the leaves were on the trees, I felt like the trees were “palming the energy on me…blessing me as I entered the walkway…like an honoring” , ..I tear-up talking about it, because I KNOW the Spirit of Nature is alive and well and whispering to me, and blessing me every day. Thank you SO much Jamie.. I look forward to touching based with Pat.
oh i cannot wait to read her book – what an inspiring conversation!!!
