Influences: The Indigo Girls

February 22, 2013

in Find Inspiration

The other day I heard the Indigo Girls interviewed on Q with Jian Ghomeshi. (You can listen to the interview here) A lot of the time I was listening, I was in tears, realizing just how deeply these musicians have touched my life.

As they played Closer to Fine not only did I remember just how many times I’ve sang that along with them in concert, not to mention along with my sisters in our living room, but also that their music has often shifted my life.

I still remember the time that Hammer and a Nail inspired me out of a deep funk. No more would I sit there sad and lost. I would do something!

I think about how Watershed described that painful stuck place I know all too well of thinking, thinking, thinking. “You can stand there and agonize until your agony’s your heaviest load.” Yes.

I’m so thankful to those who share their art, who tell their stories, who express their thoughts. It is true that when we do, we can be a light along the way. The Indigo Girls have been a light for me.

music heals – for me it was classical piano – for some reason it really moved my inner being – my mom used to tell me that she could tell how I was doing by what I would play -Cry Me A River – show tunes – ragtime or classical – I still play and teach – and the music still heals me –

an insightful post – thanks !!

Most brilliant lyrics…these two are such a gift…

Have you read Emily Saliers book? http://www.amazon.com/Song-Sing-Life-Live-Reflections/dp/0787983772

The Indigo Girls are such a huge part of my personal sound track. I can feel the way I felt at times in my life when I hear their music. I literally got chills reading this post Jamie and memories came flooding back just at the mention of the songs. Thanks so much for sharing your experience. xoxox
