My Happy: Authentic Professionalism at eWomen Network

Can you tell by my smile just how happy I was to be speaking at the eWomen Network in Toronto about Authentic Professionalism? Right away I was taken by the dynamic, friendly, helpful women that were in the room. I loved that we had a chance to connect and do some “accelerated networking” (an elegant, simple and useful process) and then share a beautiful meal together before I spoke. How wonderful to look out into the room and instead of seeing strangers, seeing women I’d had lunch with, connected to. What a treat to see a room of friendly faces and welcoming smiles. This is a beautiful group.

Authentic Professionalism is a topic near and dear to my heart. It is about how you can truly bring the real you to the work that you do – in fact, you must! It’s so important that we share the truth of who we are because that’s where our strengths lie, that’s where our uniqueness lies! As an entrepreneur this is especially important. You want both you and your ideal clients to recognize each other – and you can’t do that when you’re not being true to who you are.

I feel so blessed to have been able to connect to this group. I was moved by the stories that people came up and shared with me, how they had been touched by the talk, what they would leave thinking about or working on. I want to thank the dynamic and welcoming Darla Campbell so much for inviting me to be a part of this wonderful experience.

And I also want to thank my dear friend Romana Mirza for introducing me to eWomen Network and to Darla. Romana’s ability to connect people is definitely a part of her Authentic Professionalism! In fact, she’s been nominated for eWomen Network’s Matchmaker of the Year! She’s also a sponsor for my upcoming dance event, Groove Back.

Following your dreams and your purpose is such a joy when you have generous, supportive beautiful allies along the way! As I walked home last night, a bottle of champagne in my bag, a smile in my heart, I was filled with bliss, the sheer joy of knowing that I am doing the work that I’m meant to do in the world. There’s a lot of hard work involved, a lot of fear-facing, a lot of courage-finding and then, there are days like this.

For this session of The Next Chapter we’re having a mail-around with The Happy Book. Every Friday while the book is in the air, we’re sharing our happy. Everyone’s welcome to join in. Come on over and share what made you happy this week.

Congratulations Jamie. I know your talk was wonderful and inspiring and that the women listening went home with lots and lots of new ideas and energy. You are so right – it is wonderful to have generous, supportive allies as we travel on our journey. The journey would be very lonely without them. Have a great weekend.

How can I not be smiling ear to ear after reading your post and feeling the happy that you experienced at the eWomenNetwork event? Others in the room felt it, too. Thank you for inspiring us to open the open.
