My Happy: Meeting Megg

by Jamie Ridler on May 7, 2010

in My Life,The Happy Book

In January of 2006 I started blogging and one of the very first people I met online was the smart, sensitive, talented, radiant Meg. We were instant friends. It’s amazing to be friends for four years, to really care what’s happening with them, to watch them write a book (which Meg has) and grow into new websites (which we both have) and to see each other become more and more of who we are in the world together, in different countries!

What joy to walk up to Meg and give her a great big hug! For the first half hour, I couldn’t stop reaching over and touching her, reminding myself that we were both really there! We talked easily and laughed often. We could share our thoughts, our feelings, our wonderings, our successes and our doubts. So yes, you can make real friends in the blogosphere. No doubt.

Spending the morning with Meg was also such a joyful celebration of how much has changed for me over the past 4 years. Instead of spending my time in a day job and building my dreams in all of my sparetime, here it was,  a beautiful Tuesday morning and I was free to create my own schedule, to go to a hip district in the city for great coffee, great conversation and great friendship. Talk about Happy!

What made you happy this week?

For this session of The Next Chapter we’re having a mail-around with The Happy Book. Every Friday while the book is in the air, we’re sharing our happy. Everyone’s welcome to join in. Come on over and share what made you happy this week.

How wonderful this sounds, Jamie! I’ll celebrate with you how your life has changed in the past 4 years. It gives me much hope for the life I’m creating for myself, and how much has changed in the last year. I’m having fun in Germany, and I didn’t have to write a memo to anybody weeks in advance to ask for permission. Yay!

Oh I so wish I could make that kind of life possible! To have a flexible schedule and still keep a roof over my head? I can’t even imagine it. And to meet blogging friends to boot? Bliss! Have a great weekend. And thanks again for bringing all of us Happy addicts together.

Yes, how great to have the time to meet a friend and have a leisurely visit. The power of the web is so amazing. You inspire all of us. Thanks so much.

How wonderful – a) that you made such a great friend through blogging; b) that you finally met!
I met some bloggers this week at a special book launch event. I talked a lot about the wonderful community I have met – particularly through the wonderful summer of Wreck this Journal. Were your ears burning on Wednesday Ms Ridler? I was singing your praises :)

What a wonderful morning! Being unemployed I’ve been grateful to being able to set my own schedule – now to figure out how to make a living AND still have flexibility is the goal! :)
