Jamie Talks to Annabel Fitzsimmons About Running

MP3 File

A few weeks ago I wrote about how surprised I was to find that running is one of the things that’s making me happy! I’m really new to it and have appreciated all the encouragement and support that has come my way since I started mentioning it! It reminded me that one of the things that truly makes me happy is having a supportive community! Thank you for being a part of that tribe!

One of the people I truly value on my Support Squad is Annabel Fitzsimmons. She is a writer, an entrepreneur, a yoga and Pilates instructor and the founder of ClearSpace Online (and clearly she models that you can do many things in your life, not just one!).  Annabel is also a life-long runner and so I turned to her for some advice about running and she was kind enough to say that I could record our chat and share it with you! She shares some great tips and encouragement for us newbie runners, so I hope you’ll have a listen!

Jamie’s Running Playlist

I’ve received a few requests for the details of my playlist. I’m working with this Learn to Run program and am spending a few weeks with week 1. For the songs that are slightly more than a minute I keep walking until there’s a minute left. Here’s what I’m listening to (note: I have very eclectic music tastes):

  • Walk. 5 minutes: Alive, Black-Eyed Peas, THE E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies)
  • Run. 1 minute: Portrait with Hair Down, Elliot Goldenthall, Frida
  • Walk. 4 minutes: Back to Black, Amy Winehouse, Back to Black
  • Run. 1 minute: Polly’s Dress, Hem, Rabbit Songs
  • Walk. 4 minutes: Ess Amor, Sara Tavares, Balancê
  • Run. 1 minute: Blue Turning Grey, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Whip It!
  • Walk. 4 minutes: Back in Love Again, Estelle, Shine
  • Run. 1 minute: Suicide Blonde, The Weepies,Say I Am You
  • Walk. 5 minutes: Weird Fishes, Radiohead, In Rainbows

I linked them all to Amazon and each of them has a soundbyte you can listen to to get a vibe.

By the way, if you’re looking for support for your Creative Dreams, my group coaching program, Circe’s Circle: Your Creative Dream Team is coming up soon! For more info, click here.

For this session of The Next Chapter we’re having a mail-around with The Happy Book. Every Friday while the book is in the air, we’re sharing our happy. Everyone’s welcome to join in. Come on over and share what made you happy this week.

I am truly surprised I took it up too but I am not at the “running makes me happy” stage … yet. So I wished for that in “Knock me with a feather!” *grin* (http://keepitsimplemakeitgreat.blogspot.com/2010/05/knock-me-with-feather.html )
Thanks for the tips. :)

You make running sound like lots of fun! I almost want to try it again…well maybe not. It’s great to have a “support squad”. –I think that makes all the difference. I love that you included your playlist. Happy weekend!

I love music when I run – helps with the pain barrier!

I loved the interview even though I am not a runner. I think what Annabelle said about running can apply to so many things, “own it and celebrate it…acknowledge it and own it… ” That could go for so many things that we are doing and afraid to really claim. Great advice.

I’ve been thinking about taking up running. I have a gimpy leg from surgery and I think that running would make it strong and happy. It is so much easier to run with music playing. I like your eclectic taste – thanks for the recommendations.

Go, Jamie! Running truly changed my life. I started when I was 28 after two decades of hating it. I found the key was to go slow. I completed a marathon for my 30th birthday and while I don’t run that much anymore, the lessons learned (stamina, endurance, patience…) have always stuck with me through all my life circumstances. Keep on running! Peace – Cyndi

You totally inspired me to run! It was on my 101 and I never did it but today I did! I can’t wait to go again tomorrow :)
