The other day I stepped into the kitchen to get something and flicked on the radio, as I always do, and was literally stopped in my tracks by this song. I hope it moves you as much as it moves me.

When you need to find the right words, have a listen. Trust yourself.

Even the simplest of creative living practices can connect you to your heart and open you up to new possibilities. One of the simplest of all is the practice of listening to music, closing your eyes and imagining.

That’s it.

Yes, it can be that simple.

You probably did this for hours when you were a teenager. Head phones on. Room dark. Hours and hours of listening, feeling, imagining. For a few minutes, give yourself that gift today. Choose a song and step into a whole new world.

Oh, the power of music. Sometimes a song comes along and reminds you of the truth in your heart and inspires you to recommit to being a compassionate, loving good person. This song by Michael Franti and Spearhead does that for me. Thank you to my dear friend Alex Hickey for sharing it.

I love the music here (I listened to You Are Never Alone about a thousand times) but I’m also really moved by this underlying message of following your inspirations, coming together and being true to you.

When was the last time you just let yourself go with the music like this? Remember when you were a teenager and would sit listening to music for hours? Give yourself that time again. Instead of listening to the music in the background, while you do the dishes or go for a walk. Today, pick a song or a symphony and give yourself some time to really feel it, to engage with it, to really hear it and let it inside. Just one song. It’s all it takes to start stirring your creative soul.

I discovered this song by John Southworth ages ago and over time have shared it in many places, over and over again. It’s one of my absolute favourite running songs. As I was out for the run this week, for the first time in a while, on the most exquisite clear-skied, breezy autumn day, my heart just sang along, “Life is Unbelievable.” A great message as we step into Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada.
