I’m considering how I could bring the Groove Back dance party to your hometown and also how I might support you in creating your own Groove Back event. Dance is my heart. And I am going to follow the call of dance where it leads and help awaken that spirit wherever I go. I know it’s stirring in you!

It’s a small studio, so if you’re thinking about coming, I recommend buying your tickets ahead of time – and you get a better price too! And wherever you are, I’ll be sharing the playlist, so you’ll be able to dance along!

What is Groove Back?

When we were girls, we danced at a moment’s notice. We danced to the radio. We danced with the wind. We danced our hearts out. We danced to our own drum.

And then something happened. And we stopped.

Groove Back is the place to start again. Space. Time. Music. That’s all it takes. For an hour and a half , you are invited to remember that you are a dancer. Yes, you.

Why Groove Back?

Once we’re grown up, where do we dance? Weddings? Not often enough. Dance class? Too structured, too focused and often too intimidating. The club? Been there. Done that. Not interested in being squished, grabbed or hanging out with kids. We just want to dance. Why should it be so hard?

It isn’t!

At Groove Back…

• Dress to please your inner dancer. If a long, flowing skirt make you swirl, wear it! If Lulu Lemon pants set you free, bring it on! If sparkle makes you feel like a dancing queen, go for it!
• Get grounded. At Groove Back, we ask that you dance in bare feet or soft-soled shoes (jazz or ballet slippers, sneakers) to keep you grounded and free to move.
• Pick your favourites. The music for Groove Back is a pre-set playlist loaded on the DJ’s iPod. Once you’ve bought your ticket, you can make a request. If the DJ has it, it’s on. If not, you’ll have the option to buy the song for the Groove Back library with half the proceeds going to charity.
• Expand your horizons. Music of different eras, paces and styles will be played. Groove Back invites you to open your heart and move your feet to new tunes and to new vibes.
• We create the space. Groove Back takes place in modest surroundings. But just like the best parties happen in the kitchen, the best groove happens when we leave our hearts on the dance floor, when we share the space with our tribe, no matter where we are.

Looking forward to dancing with you!

Well, it’s not week 4 of the year, but it is our 4th week of doing something new, and that’s how I’ve decided to count them! So we’ll do 52 weeks of something new but they may not all be consecutive. That’s totally fine because the point is really to spur on some fun.

This week we tried a new restaurant at my mom’s suggestion and as a celebration of her birthday. It was glorious! The restaurant is DT-Bistro in Toronto at Harbord and Brunswick and it is a treat. Their website doesn’t capture the ambiance, so I hope these pictures do. The place is lovely and the food delicious. I would recommend, in particular, the wild mushroom soup. I even loved the shape and the weight of the spoons. I just love it when you can enjoy all the little details from the spoons, to the food, to the art on the walls. We’re definitely going back! Here’s a bit of what our lunch was like:

Do you keep wanting to create a dreamboard

Creating in community is such a joy that I occasionally host a Full Moon Dreamboard Circle in Toronto. This is a relaxed afternoon with minimal structure, designed simply to create a friendly, inviting space for you to create a dreamboard. I will provide basic supplies – bristol board (1 per person), gluesticks and scissors – and invite you to bring magazines and images that spark your imagination.

Take some time for you. Spend a fun and relaxed afternoon in community, cutting, pasting and chatting about your dreams.

Because of the demands on my schedule, this is likely to be the only Toronto Full Moon Dreamboard Circle that I will be hosting in 2010. If you’ve been meaning to come, this is the time. Let’s start the year off by creating some magic together!

The Full Harvest Moon Dreamboard Circle in Toronto was a great success! We had such fun but also such insight throughout the afternoon.  It’s wonderful to create in community, to see the energy dance, sometimes light with laughter, sometimes grounded in connection and thought. It’s a real treat to express and discover our dreams and to say them out loud, witnessed by others.  What a great way to spend the day!

One of the great joys is that in the midst of all this insight and connection, it’s also just a really great time spent with creativity, scissors and glue and good company!

And I felt fully blessed this circle because both my sisters, Shannon the Movie Moxie and Suzie the Foodie were there! And not only that, our Mom was there too! She’s wearing pink and smiling in the first photo. What a treat.
