The Interloper Returned

January 7, 2013

in My Life

This little stray and I have been on quite a journey together. After our misunderstanding, he hasn’t stopped by for months. I’ve worried about him in the cold and the snow, especially as it’s clearly his first winter.

Recently we had a big snow and I saw some tracks up to our back door and off again. I thought maybe it was him, looking for some food. For the past few mornings I put out some crunchies. Each time I looked, not a one was gone.

Until this morning.

Chatting with my sister Shannon on the phone, I casually looked out, expecting nothing, and almost all of the food was gone. I looked up, and there he was, casually cleaning himself on the fence. I gently opened the door and he came right over, keeping his distance, as always. I put out more food. When I closed the screen door, he came right up to it, looking right at me and hanging out for a while.

Be still my heart.

And he came by again this morning for breakfast. He even stayed for 20 minutes or so, grooming and relaxing. It’s so nice to see him feeling a bit more at home again!

He’s now been here four mornings in a row! I’m sharing some pictures on Facebook if you want more tidbits with the interloper :)
