I am leading a group of bloggers through The Joy Diet by Martha Beck and what a journey it has been! This week we’re talking about treats and I so loved one of the exercises that I want to share it with you. I hope it will inspire you to create just such a list of your own. Maybe this will become a delicious Sensory Delight blogging meme! All you have to do is come up with 5 ways to complete each of these sentences.
My Catalogue of Sensory Delights
I love the taste of:
- Champagne
- Our homemade mushroom risotto
- My mom’s ham and barley soup
- Raspberries
- Popcorn
I love the sight of:
- My honey
- The sky
- The contents of galleries
- Our bodies
- People when they’re all lit up
I love the feel of:
- Moving my body
- Surfaces like sand, grass, hardwood floors against my bare feet
- The wind in my hair
- My honey
- Being tucked in to the cozy, heavy blankets in the perfectly warm room while getting a facial at the spa
I love the smell of:
- coffee
- fresh-cut grass
- fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies
- my honey (I’m noticing a trend here)
- spring
I love the sound of:
- giggles
- the wind
- just the right music at just the right time
- joyful conversation
- silence
PS I left some treats over at The Joy Diet. You’re welcome to come over and enjoy!

Oh, this is delight-full!
I haven’t been able to keep up with the Joy Diet this time, but I am working my way through it slowly (found I had more to do in the first weeks before I could move on!!) But I can’t wait to get to this! I especially loved your collage. I think that that is exactly what I need to do to remind myself of what delights me!! Hmmm… I think I know what I am going to do with Hallowe’en!

Delightful – it was a treat just reading your treats
I tried to imagine myself experiencing each one. It made for a lovely meditation.

Oh, I enjoy your lists, too – & find resonance (as I have with all the posts I’ve read so far!) Raspberries – esp if they’ve been in the sun awhile!
I also enjoyed that your honey turned up on so many of the lists – just right!
Thanks for the treats!

I’m liking the sound of your honey too! hee hee!
This has been a good week. I’ve taken a huge risk – thanks to Martha’s risk assessment. I went out and found myself some alternative work. I feel good – I allowed myself guilt free treats and I’ve loved reading what everyone else has been treating themselves too. It’s been so wonderful to share all of this with you all. Big smiles

Jamie, lovely list, i enjoy some of your treats too, and i decided to post mine in my blog, inspired by your fun excercise.
What i liked the most of reading and doing this is how this simple remembering of what makes us happy, actually is making me happy right now! And also to remind myself of this easy ways of feeling grateful to be alive and reconnect with my senses every single day.
Thank you as always for the joyful vibes and the inspiration!
