Katy Swift, Textile Artist

“I worked in pharmacy for about 12 years until at the age of 29 lots of things happened and changed for me. My long term relationship came to an end and I became quite ill with depression. I  wanted things to be different but didn’t know how until a chance conversation with a colleague made me realise I could do anything.

I wanted to pursue textiles and ended up doing a 2 year Access Art course part-time before taking a place at University to study Textiles and Surface Design where I specialised in Knitted and Constructed Textiles. After 3 years of study, I left with an honours degree and started working as a freelance knitwear designer for a studio based in London. I have since sold designs in London, Paris, New York and Florence.

This year, in addition to my freelance work, I have returned to the work I developed during my final year degree project. This is a mens wear range of hand knitted sweaters using a yarn I created as part of the project. I am currently designing the 5th and final sweater within this collection before I start to approach potential retail outlets. I’m also starting to knit pieces of art that focus more on textures and colours of the material following a recent collaboration I was involved in. This gives me a place to play within my practice and allows me to explore my work and the effect of knitting.

Tracie Hanson, artist

Tracie Was born in Texas and moved to the west coast shortly after graduating college. Since then, she has enjoyed varied careers ranging from  co-owning an art gallery with her artist Mother
to a long stint in television advertising.

Nothing however has made her happier and more fulfilled than discovering her passion for painting only a few short years ago in 2009 – even when co-owning the gallery, she had not known she was an artist!

Tracie lives with her husband, his two teen daughters and a dog named “Flea” in Huntington Beach and Palm Springs, California.

Tracie’s artwork reveals her love of exotic cultures, travel and educational backgrounds in both Geology and Archaeology. Many of the figures or objects in her paintings are literally “excavated”  from randomly painted and collaged backgrounds. This intuitive painting technique surprises even the artist as unusual compositions and mystical characters take shape.

Veronica Funk, artist

Veronica Funk was born in Winnipeg and raised in Leaf Rapids, northern Manitoba. She studied Art & Design at Red Deer College in Alberta, apprenticed with potters, stone sculptors and painters in Manitoba and spent a year painting on a farm in Saskatchewan.  She currently resides near the Rocky Mountains in Airdrie, Alberta and has been painting professionally since 1999. Her work has been exhibited across Canada and in the United States and is found in private and corporate collections around the world.

Veronica’s Book, Sacred Vessel: An Artist’s Handbook, covers everything about a career as an artist from inspiration, to stretching and wiring canvas to contacting galleries and is the book she wishes she would have had when she was starting my career as an artist. You can find it here.

Stacey Libbert, writer, creator & teacher

Stacey Libbert writes, creates folk art, works in community theater and teaches literature and writing to early college high school students. She is also a trail running, mountain biking, and hiking enthusiast who enjoys everything from 5Ks to ultra-marathons as well as a more relaxed yoga practice. She believes that physical activity and being outside are two of the best ways to connect with creative energy and to feel truly alive. When she’s not on the trail, hanging out with her kids, or working in her garden, she is most likely journaling, painting or watching old movies on Turner Classic Movies. (She is waiting for Robert Osborne to retire so she can slip in as the next host of TCM. It’s her dream gig.) She lives on a farm in rural North Carolina with her husband, two children, and a gang of rescue pets (including goats and two mice).
