Day 15: Kittens

Well, if you’ve been around here for any time at all, you know I have a soft spot for kittens. Perhaps it started when we rescued our three from a tough situation (More likely, that’s just when I went public!)

I feel like kittens have rescued me too. During my mom’s battle with cancer, I would sit at the computer while she slept and watch kittens on a live cam, especially Foster Dad John of the Critter Room. The first round was the Spice Kittens. Here’s an example.

Sometimes it was hours of quiet sleeping babies or sometimes it was lively, like this mama with the kitty crazies.

Kittens on Instagram

These days I get my kitten entertainment on Instagram. Over this past year, I have been particularly captivated by Kitten Faces. Not only are the kittens always delightful but Barb is a brilliant and funny foster mom. I learn from and am inspired and entertained by her every day. In the relatively short time I’ve been watching, she’s saved several kitten lives. Right now she’s fostering a mom who won’t let her close and her three sweet babies.

I have to also share that @foster_kittens has a particularly adorbs set of fosters right now. Seriously. They are irresistible!

Day 14: The Quiet & Gentle Beauty of Everyday Life

There’s a whole world on YouTube of quiet videos that share gentle enjoyment of everyday living.  I’ve found these quite a comfort when life has felt anything but! I hope that you do too.

Day 13: Safari Live

My stepmom, Julie, introduced me to SafariLive at Christmas several years ago and I have been watching it ever since! (Shibumi likes it too!)  Now it feels particularly precious to travel across the globe and enjoy sights and sounds so different from home. I hope you enjoy the journey.

Day 12: The Best Acoustic Covers of Popular Songs

We turn to music so often in our lives – the big celebrations, the epic challenges, the everyday moments. During this pandemic, I have found it to be such a balm to listen to music that soothes my jangled nerves. This playlist of acoustic versions of popular songs has been in steady rotation. I hope it brings some solace to you too.

Just hit play on the video above or listen to the playlist here. The first ‘song’ is an hour long and then there is a series of videos, which is where I spend most of my listening time!

Day 11: Inky Art School (Free 10-Day Class)

Drawing used to be where my art heart was most wounded. Healing that part of my creativity over the past few years has been such a blessing. Getting comfortable with drawing has opened up a whole new world to me, allowing me to experience the meditative joy available when putting pen to page. Now I doodle and draw in my Studio Yearbook just about every day! Maybe now is your time to find a bit of fun and solace drawing too.

Perhaps a free drawing class is just the bit of inspiration and instruction you need. Artist Johanna Basford offers a free 10-class series you might enjoy called Inky Art School. You can check out the lessons here.

Day 10: A 30-Day Haiku Challenge from Nicole Gulotta

#30DaysOfHaikuChallenge

During difficult times, it can be calming to turn our attention to a doable task, to focus on a project or challenge, to practice the art of channeling our experience into creative expression. For 30 days, Nicole Gulotta, author of Wild Words, is encouraging us to do just that with haiku.

What’s a haiku? According to Merriam-Webster

A haiku is an unrhymed Japanese poetic form that consists of 17 syllables arranged in three lines containing five, seven, and five syllables, respectively. A haiku expresses much and suggests more in the fewest possible words.

Nicole’s providing 30-days of prompts to get you inspired and encouraging us to share on Instagram. So why not spend some time each day creating a moment of beauty in the world? Share it with @nicolegulotta and others with the hashtag #30DaysOfHaikuChallenge.
